District Implementation Plans
In early 2019, CS4RI conducted a series of facilitated workshops for districts in Rhode Island to develop comprehensive K-12 district-level CS implementation plans.
Participating districts were asked to submit their plans to CS4RI for dissemination among stakeholders. View the plans below!
Central Falls
Central Falls had a clear vision statement with BPC as one of its main focus areas. Central Falls also has clear integration with the RI Computer Science Standards.
Chariho
Chariho’s plan has clear and doable goals, a focus on integration through subject areas, an emphasis on vertical alignment, a dedication to sustainability, and an awareness of BPC. Additionally, the BPC section is strong and students with disabilities are directly included.
Cumberland
Cumberland’s plan addresses BPC within the context of all their goals, treating BPC as a component (not as a stand-alone) that is embedded within CS implemen-tation. Cumberland has developed a strong curriculum mapping document highlighting how each standard is met.
East Providence
East Providence’s plan highlights equity and social justice as part of their vision and includes many goals and actions to meet that vision. They outline CS at each grade level and how it will be offered by utilizing a variety of providers to best meet the district’s needs.
North Kingstown
North Kingstown's plan succeeds in articulating clear, doable roles for their District CS partners. North Kingstown has a well-developed implementation timeline, which showcases a thought out plan for teacher support and development.
Providence
Providence has developed a vision and goals that link their plan to the district’s principles as well as the need for CS instruction for all. They will utilize pilot programs to bring all schools onboard and have identified required curriculum, including embedding CS into Algebra, and elective options at each level.
Middletown
Middletown has a strong teacher support vision, with emphasis on district-wide communication and curriculum integration support for non-CS teachers. BPC is directly addressed as an important area justifying why CS is important for all.
Pawtucket
Pawtucket’s vision highlights equity, 21st century skills, and vocational opportunities. They also highlight many specific strategies for content and instructional improvement, including encouraging RIDE endorsement for all teachers teaching CS.
Warwick
Warwick’s vision demonstrates the larger "Why" of their plan for students and society. Their plan has very specific, actionable items, including data collection and planned analysis for program improvement, and many recruitment strategies utilizing students, counselors and outreach by all stakeholders to families.
West Warwick
Newport
West Warwick’s vision is tied to the district's strategic plan and has specific goals for students' skill development. The district’s CS4RI committee will continue to meet to monitor and evaluate their plan implementation utilizing achievement and enrollment data.
Newport’s vision is to provide students with a collaborative, integrated CS program that fosters persistence, agility, problem solving, creativity, power and agency. The CS program will support a 21st Century skilled workforce across all disciplines with the digital skill set necessary to meet industry demands.
