Patricia Piros, Computer Science Program Instructor at East Providence High School Career and Technical Center, has been named the recipient of the 2022 Carol Giuriceo Computer Science Teacher of the Year award.
To help more students access computer science, especially students from underserved communities, Code.org has partnered with DonorsChoose to award $1 million to U.S. schools — that’s right, a MILLION dollars. As part of the 10th Hour of Code, one middle and high school in every U.S. state and D.C. will be awarded the CS Leaders Prize of $10,000 for increasing access to computer science education for their students.
We encourage supporters of CS education in the state to participate in the final meeting of RIDE’s Reimagining High School Working Group, which is overseeing the secondary regulations revision process, including graduation requirements. It takes place on November 30 at 3pm.
Computer Science Education Week (CS Ed Week) is an annual call to action for the inclusion of computer science in K-12 education. Calling all K-12 public school teachers to apply to the Infosys Foundation USA’s Pathfinders Summer Institute taking place virtually from July 19-24. This week-long professional development opportunity offers 19 different courses for teachers in computer science and maker education.
Infy Maker Awards is open to K-12 schools and youth-serving organizations who aim to create more opportunities for students to engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary learning through making. Ten organizations will each receive a $10,000 grant.
RIDE is pleased to announce that the new Computer Science for Rhode Island (CS4RI) High School Grant is now accepting applications. CS4RI High School Grants will provide funding to 20 Rhode Island high schools to establish computer science pathways and study the impact of work-based learning on students’ AP computer science scores. The program is funded through a $2.5M grant that RIDE was awarded from the US Department of the Education in the fall.

The 3rd Annual Computer Science Teachers Association New England Regional Conference, "Equity in Computing," brings together educators and leaders in K-12 and higher education, state policymakers, and industry professionals from across greater New England to work together to build supportive communities and broaden participation in computer science education.
The Infosys Foundation USA is taking the Pathfinders Institute on the road this winter and traveling to Providence, RI! This unique opportunity for intensive, in-person professional development for K-12 public school teachers in computer science and making will take place at the University of Rhode Island from February 16-20, 2020.
CS4RI announces the opening of applications for a Computer Science Implementation Specialist (CSEIS).
The 5th Annual Summer Scratch Extension workshop will help you “Kick Scratch Up a Notch” and provide the time and support for you to create your own projects and a plan for the upcoming school year. This workshop will introduce you to a variety of Scratch or Scratch related extensions that will help you get to know Scratch 3.0 better and extend your Scratch tool belt. More importantly, it is designed to encourage you and your students to take your coding explorations in new directions. One theme of the workshop will be physical computing. Physical computing is using Scratch (or other coding) to interact directly with the world around you.

Come and share your work and learn from other’s. District Implementation teams are asked to share the progress of their CS Implementation Plans. Attendees will have the opportunity to share what they are most proud of in their plans and request help with the components they may find most challenging.
For districts which have not yet begun the planning process, after the sharing portion, you’ll be introduced to all the necessary components of an implementation plan.

CS4RI announces the opening of applications to Computer Science Implementation grants that are intended to accelerate the integration of computer science activities with existing learning experiences in elementary and middle schools (grades K-8) and in-depth computer science courses at the middle and high school levels (6-12). RIDE will award grants on a competitive basis to local educational agencies (LEAs) for K-12 Computer Science pathway planning and implementation activities in an effort to create a comprehensive plan. Grant amounts can be up to $10,000 for funds to be used by August 16, 2019.
